What to expect from a treatment
Does Acupuncture hurt?
The needles used during an Acupuncture treatment are unlike any needle you have been exposed to at your local GP or hospital. Acupuncture needles, unlike hypodermic needles used to draw blood and administer injections, are very fine with diameters measuring from 0.16 - 0.46mm. Most clients don't feel the needles, although some points on the body can be more sensitive to needling. A specific sensation known as De-Qi (which translates as "the arrival of Qi") can be perceived when the energy in the meridian is stimulated through needling. This sensation is not classified as painful and is often described as aching, dull, heavy, radiating, spreading and tingling.
What should I wear?
We advise that you to wear comfortable, loose-fitted clothing to your treatment session. This way, you can feel at your most relaxed during your treatment. Loose-fitted clothing also allows us access to acupuncture points without you having to disrobe. Please note that we have towels, t-shirts and shorts available if needed.
How many treatments will I need?
Each individual is unique and presents with different symptoms. Recovery time is based on the severity, length, depth and progression of the dis-ease. Most people experience great relief after their very first treatment while others notice improvement after 2 or 3 sessions. At Willowbrook NHC, our goal is to address the root cause of illness, discomfort and dis-ease and not just the overlying symptoms. We often give "homework" or exercises for clients to do between treatments to assist in their recovery.
